June 24: On This Day In 2020
In 2020, Trump began attacking the integrity of the coming election early and often. Why? Because he was losing. So his strategy was to lie: lie about voter fraud, mail-in ballots, electronic voting machines, you name it. He knew that MAGAville believed every word he said, so his lies could sow doubts about the legitimacy of our system. Putin himself couldn’t have wished for anything better.

So, as the scheme unfolded, OTDI 2020, The New York Times reported that Trump had told more than 60 lies about election integrity lies in just the past two months.
“It is misinformation and disinformation, and it’s no different than foreign adversaries and cyberhackers spewing info about an election process,” said Amber McReynolds, of the National Vote at Home Institute, told the New York Times.
California’s Secretary of State Alex Padilla added: “What he’s trying to do is absolutely clear: He is not just seeking to undermine the confidence in the election, but confidence in the November election results that he may not like.”
By the time he left Washington, Trump had lied about mail-in ballots 144 times, a rigged election 76 times, Dominion voting machines 35 times, and Republican poll watchers 24 times, according to the Washington Post’s great fact-checking database.
Btw, we don't know if those counts also included the times he simply ranted “I won.”
2024 update: Of course the torrent of election lies has continued unabated since he fled DC. And of course he continues to hold MAGA fans in his thrall, as he continues to erode our nation’s collective faith in our system of government.
