August 20: On This Day In 2019
Trump cancelled meetings with Mexico’s president because they wouldn’t pay for his pet wall. And OTDI 2019, he angrily scrubbed a planned meeting with Denmark because they… wouldn’t sell him Greenland. Yes, Greenland, land of melting ice owned by the Danish for centuries. And which happens also to be rich with valuable resources.
When she heard of Trump’s scheme to acquire their island, Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen responded simply that Greenland was “not for sale.”
Trump, in a fit of pique, lashed out at her. “She's talking to the United States of America. You don't talk to the United States that way, at least under me,” he mansplained. He also called her “nasty,” which of course is his go-to phrase when wanting to belittle women.
Hard to believe, isn’t it?
One more thing: Trump has been criticized for not having a sense of humor. This is an actual Tweet of our president's. A sense of humor? Maybe?! You decide.
