July 13: On This Day In 2024

We admire President Trump’s bravery. It was remarkable! And we are glad that he’s now safe. And we thank the Secret Service for their quick reactions.

But now the question is…WHY did he even HAVE to be brave? Why did somebody in the crowd have a gun? Why are at least two people dead today?

Why has the GOP, for generations, continued to elect and elevate ardently pro-gun politicians and judges? Even after they witnessed what happened to one of their leaders Steve Scalise?

Trump and his fellow GOPers installed three justices on the Supreme Court who rejected even the minimal gun control legislation which Trump himself wanted, re banning bump stocks. They have, at every opportunity, eroded so many sensible and widely-condoned gun-related laws across multiple jurisdictions.

Imagine a world in which Trump had not won in ‘16. It seems likely that the Court would have a 6-3 make-up now which would accept most reasonable forms of gun control.

There’s no guarantee that any legislation, or any social program, or any technology, would have stopped today’s shooter. But a primary “benefit” to letting every wacko in the crowd carry guns, according to Trump and the GOP, is that that threat would deter shooters. That’s obviously nonsense, and certainly didn’t stop today’s shooter either.

In Abu Dhabi, they have vending machines which dispense gold bars. In the GOP-led Alabama, Texas, and Oklahoma, they now have vending machines in supermarkets which dispense…gold-colored bullets. Argh.

On days like today, many ask “Why does this keep happening in America?” One answer is: Americans keep electing GOPers.

We wish a full and speedy recovery to President Donald Trump. We just really, really, wish we didn’t have to.

Summary: Trump shot; GOP resists gun control
